Croatian President, DSc Ivo Josipovic met with Burgenland Croats during a visit to the Republic of Austria on the 5th and 6th November 2012. MSc Daria Krsticevic, Head of the State Office for Croats Abroad was in the delegation of the Croatian President.
In Klimpuh, the delegation met with Stanko Horvath, president of the Croatian Cultural Society in Burgenland. On that occasion, President Josipovic said that Croatia takes care of its minorities and, through the newly established State Office for Croats Abroad, will continue to support more intensely the activities of preservation of the national identity and cultural characteristics of Burgenland.
The president of the Croatian Cultural Society Stanko Horvath reported to the Croatian delegation about two great and important events for the Burgenland Croats in the next year.
"Next year we are celebrating the 480th anniversary of the Croats in this region and the Croatian accession to the European Union," said Horvath. He expressed hope that the Croatian membership in the EU will give a new impetus to the strengthening and nurturing relationships between Burgenland Croats and the homeland.
After Klimpuh, president Josipovic with the delegation, visited a new bilingual school in the Great Borištof, the only school in Burgenland in which the program is implemented in Croatian and German language. Great Borištof is a municipality with four villages where the Croats make up 80 percent of the population.
Croatian delegation also visited the Upper Bort and Pinkovci in southern Burgenland.
